JOIN REQUESTS
Someone using your invite does not get in right away. They answer a few questions and send a request, and they join once you or your team approve it. No separate sign-up channel, no members sitting around without a role.
- 1. step Invite You share the link
- 2. step Request They answer your questions
- 3. step Review You or your team take a look
- 4. step Join Approved people get in
// server owners and moderators
Turn on join approval
Turning approval on and choosing the questions is for the owner and admins. Reviewing requests can be handed to any role you like.
-
Open server settings
Click the server name at the top of the channel list, then pick Applications on the left.
Server name ›Applications
-
Tick “Approve new members”
From the moment you save, every invite link of the server opens the request screen instead. Existing members are not affected.
-
Add questions if you like
Use “Add question” to ask up to 5 questions. With none, people ask to join in one tap. With some, they must answer all of them first.
Short questions you can check work best: “Who invited you?”, “Where did you hear about us?”, “Which games do you play?”
-
Save
From now on, people who use your invite wait in line for a decision.
Who reviews requests?
The owner and admins always can. To let your moderators do it too, give a role the permission.
-
Pick a role
In Roles, pick a role or create a new one.
Server name ›Roles ›Moderator
-
Turn on “Review applications”
You will find it in the permission list, under Moderation.
-
Give the role to your moderators
Someone with this permission who is not an admin sees only Applications in server settings, nothing else. When people are waiting, they get there from the button in the channel list or from the notification.
Review requests
When someone asks to join, everyone who can review gets a notification, and a button showing how many are waiting appears above the channel list.
- What the card shows
- Their name, username, how old their account is, and their answers. Accounts younger than a week are marked “New account”.
- Approve
- They become a member right away and are told so.
- Reject
- Add a reason if you want; they will see it.
- History
- The History tab shows who decided what. Decisions also go to the audit log.
- Two people at once
- If two people decide on the same request at the same moment, only the first decision counts.

Ask to join a server
Some servers approve new members. When you open the invite of one of them, you send a request instead of joining directly.
-
Open the invite
Click the invite link, or paste the code in the app under “Create or join a server”, “Join with a code”.
-
Answer the questions
The invite card says the server approves new members. If it asks questions, answer all of them. Your answers are shown to the server’s moderators.
-
Tap “Ask to join” and wait
The card changes to “Your request is being reviewed”. You cannot see the server’s channels meanwhile; that is expected.
-
Approved means you are in
You get a notification and the server appears in your list. If it has rules, you read and accept them first.
If you are not accepted, you see the reason when one was given. You can ask again after 24 hours.
